Aim: We encourage people to travel without flying to reduce emissions and shift the culture away from aviation. Help us inspire more people!
There has never been a more important time to take action on the climate, with climate change having devastating effects in the UK and around the world.
But the people in charge pretend we can go on as normal, with the Government pushing ahead with airport expansion, and the aviation industry telling us we can fly carbon neutral so there’s nothing to worry about.
That’s why we’re here.
Flight Free UK is a charity that encourages people to travel without flying.
We educate the public about the climate impact of aviation, and give information and inspiration for travelling by other means.
We inspire people to cut down on their flights through the Flight Free Challenge, which asks people to take one year off flying to reduce emissions and create a social shift away from taking flights as the default.
If lots of individuals take action together, it leads to wider societal and system change.
Why flight free?
Most people are unaware of the impact of their flights. We know we should eat less meat, or drive less in order to reduce climate change emissions. But few people know that just one flight could wipe out the savings made elsewhere.
Government and industry are relying on false solutions such as questionable 'SAF' (so-called 'sustainable' aviation fuel) and offsetting. Our role is to give accurate information about the true climate impact of flying, and help people make low-carbon choices.
What we have achieved – and what we want to achieve
Thanks to your generosity over the past few years, we have:
- saved over 20,000 tonnes CO2 from the atmosphere
- established ourselves as a trusted voice on aviation, with interviews on BBC TV and Radio as well as in mainstream newspapers
- gained a social media following of 24,000+
- inspired 10s of 1000s of peoples to reduce the amount they fly, or quit altogether
We want to keep growing, and reach more people with our inspiring message. Your donations will help us increase our output and achieve our targets:
- 10,000 people taking the Flight Free Challenge per year – therefore saving 10,000 tonnes atmospheric CO2 annually
- doubling our social media presence
- extending our programme of public events
Donating to Flight Free UK goes directly towards climate action.
Every penny we receive funds our campaigning work:
- our website, which is packed full of educational and inspirational content
- our events programme, which includes online and in-person events across the UK
- our social media presence, including platform subscriptions and our fab Communications Officer
- design software for our infographics
- stock images and video content
- travel to various locations around the UK to give talks
This all contributes to our mission to educate people about the climate impact of aviation and inspire them to travel by other means.
This year donations are match funded, meaning whatever you donate to our campaign will have double the impact.
