Crowdfunder and Sport England have teamed up to make match funding available to help get more people active, reduce the number of inactive people and tackle inequalities.

We’re encouraging not for profit organisations who play an important role in keeping their community physically active to get involved.

Projects that provide opportunities for groups facing barriers for activity are of particular interest, as well as projects in communities identified as having the greatest need for activity programmes.

Improving physical activity for people and communities who need it most.

You need a crowdfunding project to apply for funding. Start or continue adding your project and, if eligible, you'll be prompted to apply.

Criteria
Improving physical activity for people and communities who need it most.

The Movement Fund offers crowdfunding pledges, grants and resources to improve physical activity opportunities for the people and communities who need it the most. If your project aligns with the Movement Fund’s priorities, you can get funding for a wide range of costs and items up to £15,000.

The Movement Fund focuses on projects that get more people active, reduce the number of inactive people and tackle inequalities. This means the investments support Sport England’s strategy, Uniting the Movement.

Funding priorities:

Projects that provide opportunities for groups facing barriers to activity are of particular interest, such as:

  • people living on low incomes
  • disabled people or those with long-term health conditions
  • older people
  • people from culturally diverse communities
  • pregnant women and parents with very young children
  • girls aged 5-16
  • LGBTQ+ people
  • people who are in foster care
  • people who provide care without pay
  • projects in communities identified as having the greatest need for activity programmes

What makes a good project?

Alongside your great ideas to get more people active, the Movement Fund supports projects that:

  • Encourage positive experiences in sports and physical activity
  • Involve the community in planning and delivery
  • Prioritise environmental sustainability
  • Are a good use of public money

What can be funded

The Movement Fund supports projects that promote physical activity, including active travel, walking, cycling, dance, fitness, and sporting activities.

Here are some other things the funding could cover:

  • Buying new equipment
  • Upgrading equipment
  • Refurbishing or upgrading facilities
  • Developing leadership and capability
  • Staffing costs for new projects
  • Emergency relief

How it works

If your application is approved, the Movement Fund will offer a pledge towards your campaign target. The maximum pledge is £15,000.

The pledge will appear on your campaign page once you:
  • raise at least 25% of your initial target,
  • raise this from at least 25 different people

You need to reach 100% of your campaign target to receive the funds from Sport England.

Before completing your application please read the full Eligibility and Pledge Criteria.

Funded projects will be required to agree to the Award Conditions.
